SL-V 44: Footpath of Rugat
This footpath covers one of the most unknown areas of la Vall d’Albaida region. It is short but quite interesting regarding the landscape and the beauty of the environment. It has 2,6 km that you can cover in approximately one hour with minimal difficulty.
The footpath SLV- 44 is a route through the sierra of the municipal area of Rugat, which goes from Rugat to the Casa Barranca or to “les Penyes Llúcies”. Both are 2639 metres and 2660 metres long respectively. We have to add the return trip through the same route.
We
leave Rugat (290 metres above sea level) and take the path “del
Molí”, an asphalt path that leads us to the future Recreational
Area “Les Fonts” in 30 minutes. In this stretch we find
the Molí of Rugat, a well-preserved mill. The recreational area
was an old sand quarry whose process of restoration has been planned
for this year. The path which runs next to the “Barranc de la
Jassena” (ravine) starts here.
We arrive at the “Font de Barranca” in 20 minutes (480 metres above sea level). If we continue walking to the right, we arrive at the Casa Barranca in 10 minutes (540 metres above sea level). Nowadays, this house is almost in ruins, although its appearance lets us know that there was much activity in the middle of the last century. On the contrary, if we decide to walk to the left, in 10 minutes we will arrive at “les Penyes Llúcies” (540 metres high). These rocks are called “Llúcies” (“shining”) because of their intense shine after having rained for awhile and because they can be seen from a long distance.
Both from the Casa Barranca and “les Penyes Llúcies” there are superb views over the region of La Vall d’Albaida, the Benicadell and the Serra Grossa. Behind our backs we have the so-called “Penyes Altes”, a group of rocks which belong to the municipal area of Castelló de Rugat.
As we have said, this route is short but, at the same time, very interesting. In fact, we can access other places through the footpaths of the nearby municipal areas.
The PR footpath has a stretch to the “Penyes Llúcies” (connection with the SL-V 43 footpath of Aielo de Rugat).
