Sierra of the Umbría
PR-V 134: Agullent - Agres
The short distance footpath PR V-134 takes us from Agullent to Agres,
a town at the feet of the Sierra of Mariola. This footpath is 10 kilometres
long and can be completed in around 2 hours and a half.
We leave Agullent from the Font Jordana. At the back of the ravine
starts the upward and winding path. After approximately a 400 metres
walk, we take the footpath PR-V 121 (Enginyers' path) to the east (Covalta)
and later on we turn to the right and continue walking through the path
of Agres. From here we can observe the "Penya Llisa" and San
Vicente Chapel.
If we continue in an eastward direction, we will go around the ravine
of "els Penyascals" and leave behind the pine forest of Agullent.
We follow this path to the Pla de Carrils. As we are ascending, we have
magnificent views over the Vall d'Albaida and its towns.
Then we cross this area and go along a forest track. This stretch is
known as "Camino del Cuco" because it runs through the old
path that led to a country house with the same name. After 100 metres
walking, we leave this path and go deep into a pine forest which leads
us to the Alto de la Filosa, where we take another forest track.
If we follow this track in an eastward direction we get to the highest
point of our route: the Fornet de Verda, a high plateau from where we
can sight the summit of Covalta and the Benicadell. Later on, we leave
this track at the end of the gravel area.
If we turn off to the left, we can go for a walk to the fountain called
Font del Patge. However, the main path runs to the right, among fields
of fruit trees, and arrives at the Foieta dels Carros, from where we
start a slight descend to the Vall d'Agres among pine trees and old
holm oaks.
We arrive now at the point where the railway line Valencia-Alcoi crosses
the Puente de la Vía and from where we can see the railway station
of Agres, which is 150 metres to the left. Further on, we turn to the
right and take the road to the railway station after a walk of 400 metres.
Then, after 125 metres walking we take the Senda dels Sorts. This path
runs among fields of fruit trees and leads us to a country house with
the same name. Later on we go up and pass through the Barranc del Llop
to arrive at the old path of Ontinyent, which leads us to Agres.
