PR-V 122: Ravine of the "Tarongers", old path from Ontinyent to Bocairent

This is one of the most attractive footpaths we can follow in the region of La Vall d’Albaida. It has 10,25 kilometres, climb/descent of 250 metres and minimum of difficulty. The estimated time to complete it is 3 hours.

The route starts in the track that goes deep into the ravine of the “Tarongers” from the road CV81 between Bocairent and Ontinyent. Once we pass the well of water supply and the fountain of the ravine, we find a path to the right that surrounds the "Molino de Patirás" and runs along the river.

This path crosses the river and surrounds the mill of "Lluna". Then, there is a slight climb to the pylon. Later on, we descend a little bit and leave the local footpath SL V-9 (called "senda del Castellar") to the left. This footpath goes up to the Alto del Castellar in 20 minutes.

The path crosses the river once again and arrives at the mill of Pep Joan, which still has a big waterwheel. From here we can arrive at a small fountain in a few minutes and there we can stock up on water. Once we arrive at the Beneyto house we take a path to the left and go up to San Antonio Chapel, in the surrounding area of Bocairent.

Now we can go to the town centre of Bocairent to have breakfast, dinner or visit the medieval quarter, the bullring (dug in the rock) or the "Covetes dels moros" (Moorish caves).

We return to the path we had left before and follow it to the upper part of the sierra, from where we have excellent views over Bocairent, the "valleta d'Agres" and the north slope of Sierra Mariola.

Then, the path goes down through many crags and arrives at the road, where we can see another mill called "del pas". If we follow the road, we return to the starting point which is 1,1 kilometres away.

Then, there is a slight climb which links with the track of "el Torrater" and later on desdends to the cemetery of Ontinyent, the starting point of the PR V-121.
