Sierra of the Umbría

PR-V 121: Ontinyent – Senda dels Enginyers (Enginyers' path) - Agullent - Covalta

The PRV-121 is a short distance footpath of 16,5 kilometres which can be covered in approximately 3 hours 35 minutes. With a climb/descent of 410 metres, it does not imply any difficulty and offers magnificent views over the Vall d'Albaida region.

This route starts in the cemetery of Ontinyent, close to the starting point of the path that goes up to the Torrater. We can recognize this footpath by the walls of stone that demarcate it. We go among pine forests and later on through a stony area. Here we can find several paths and all of them go to the Alto de les Olles in 12 minutes and to the track of the Torrater in 50 minutes. Further on, we leave the Enginyers' path and go down the left path, which leads us to the Font Maciana among thick pine forest.

The Font Maciana is a recreational area with water, shade and barbecue facilities. People from Agullent and surroundings go there to spend some time with friends, surrounded by thick vegetation.

The path continues crossing the track which goes to Agullent and goes up into wet pine forests. It leaves a path to the left which leads to Sant Vicent Chapel in 12 minutes and links with the track of the Font del Patge. This fountain is located in a widening of the path and there we can find shade and tables.

If we follow this track we will go through a beautiful landscape full of bushes. From there we can see the municipal areas of Benissoda, Agullent and Albaida. Later on, we arrive at a path that leads us to the foot of the Covalta mountain.

Leaving the refuge Don Bosco and the Casa el Clau at the foot of the Sierra, now we start a slight climb. On the left there is a track which leads us to the Covalta in approximately half an hour.

Now the climb is harder. The slope of the mountain is going through a regeneration process after having suffered many forest fires last years. We have several towns at our backs and once we are on the top, we can admire a magnificent view of the Benicadell Sierra.

The Covalta is a natural cavity with a fountain in its inside where we can cool down after the hard climb and from where we can enjoy a superb view.
