Sierra of Quatretonda

This sierra is located to the East of the “Serra Grossa”, between the Bética and Iberian mountain ranges. Especially noteworthy are the faults originated because of the karstic properties of the terrain. Both swallow holes, the “Sima de Quatretonda” and the “Sima de Aldaia”, are good examples, with depths of 185 and 113 metres respectively. The most important peaks are “Alt de l'Hedra” (672 metres) and “la Mola” (500 metres). The original landscape of the Sierra of Quatretonda was modified by the fires occurred in the sixties and seventies. In spite of this, today this Sierra is still an ideal space to practice trekking and have contact with nature. Nowadays, the old forests of holm oaks, pines and oak trees have been replaced with plenty of shrubs and bushes, such as thyme, rosemary and gorse. There are also some pines and a small flora reserve located in the shady part of the sierra, where there are endemic species very hard to find in other places.

It is worth mentioning the marble mining of high quality in this sierra.
