Pinet

Finally, the last stop of this route is Pinet, one of the smallest villages of our region, with only 200 inhabitants. There is an important tradition which is almost disappearing: the production of items with palmetto leaves.

Since very long time, palmetto has been used to make different essential tools in agriculture and other activities. From the 18th century this manufacture was carried out by farmers' families, who worked the palm leaves in their homes.

After picking the palmetto's shoots and let them dry in the sun, blades or strands are made with the palm leaves, that later on will be plaited by women. The final result are: all kinds of baskets, mats, brooms, brushes, etc.

Today, some inhabitants still make this products (ordered in advance). Would you buy some of them? Then, call to the town council or ask someone in Pinet about who makes these items.
