This museum is built on the site of the old chapel of the Sants de
la Pedra, in the highest part within the Olleria municipal area. We
can find two collections in the Monastery of the Padres Capuchinos:
one of glass and another one of painting. This austere building, which
has a small cloister and an attached garden, houses a collection of
glass in a room enclosed to the cloister. We can see a wide variety
of pieces placed on the shelves: jags of water, glasses and wine bottles.
The bottles, from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, reflect the ancient
wine tradition of the town. There can be also found centerpieces, fishes
of different colours, fruit bowls and a kiln for the firing of the glass,
which reminds us the craft tradition in the manufacture process of glass.
Opposite the museum of glass we can find the collection of paintings
by Marziali. During his stay in the monastery and using palette knife
technique, this painter captured scenes of Franciscans’ everyday
life. From an interior patio we can gain access to the wine cellar,
where we can find a modest ethnographic exhibition.
We advise you to go for a walk through the garden, an old vegetable
garden, where there is a huge myrtle and other varieties of bushes.
