Since 1970, the Local Archaeological Museum is located in an adjoining
room to Church of the Assumption. The collection has a series of remains
from the Palaeolithic up to the Middle Ages that have been found in
different sites next to the town of Bocairent. It is worth mentioning
a collection of ceramics from the Neolithic period and, particularly,
a vessel decorated with a marine shell.
A detailed replica of the Bocairent’s lion, carved in stone,
is also remarkable: it is a big funerary statue from the 5th-4th century
BC, whose original is in the San Pío V Museum of Valencia.
Finally, it is worth mentioning a spectacular mock-up of “les
covetes dels Moros” (“the Moors’ caves”), artificially
excavated in the rock, that gives us a view about the most emblematic
spot of the town.
