Museo Internacional de Marionetas de Albaida (MITA)
If we go through the widest arch of Milá and Aragó’s palace, we can find a huge sculpture of artist Evarist Navarro, which indicates the MITA (“International Puppet Museum of Albaida”). Since 1997, the MITA is located in a wing of the Milá and Aragó’s palace. In the entrance hall we can find a colourful furniture and two arches recently restored. We access the first floor from the iron and glass stairs. In that floor there is a wide range of traditional puppets from Europe, Asia, Africa and America. The brute force of African puppets, carved in wood, is pretty remarkable. This collection of puppets has been acquired from different ways. On the one hand, they have been obtained from the Mostra de Titelles (“Puppets’ Exhibition”), which takes place in this region once a year since 1984. On the other hand, they have been lent, transferred or even rented. However, all of them show us different ways of expression which are in all cultures, a communication habit based on human being’s nature. This is reflected in the audiovisual presentation shown in the amphitheatre of the first floor. This presentation offers us an overview of puppets’ world, adapted to the whole audience. The upper floor is dedicated to national and Valencian Companies, and puppets are different in size, material and technique.
