When we cross the main square of the town, we can find the Casa Museo
of painter Segrelles (“House-Museum”), with an outstanding
façade. This building, used by artist Segrelles in 1943, was
thought to be a space open to the public. At the same time, it was thought
to be a place to show his works, which are located in different rooms
of the house, such as the Arabic room, the library or the studio.
The whole of his works give us an overview of the artist’s career:
designer of posters, classical works’ illustrator, visionary of
outer spaces and portrait painter. In the postwar period his paintings
are particularly based on religious art. The collection have around
200 works, where illustrations are remarkable, not only for his value
on the command of the technique, but for his ability to reflect each
work’s essence, what gave him worldwide recognition.
The square and the area around it invite us to go for a walk. Rafael
Amorós, a successful local artist, has set up his studio in a
restored house of the town. This intimate space, with plenty of light,
houses an art gallery. The studio has two wonderful Gothic arcades,
which were probably part of an old guildhall of the 14th century.
