The Natural Science Museum is located in the first floor of the Monastery of Padres Franciscanos, of Neoclassic architecture. This museum is the result of the universalistic intentions of the first museums (17th century ). They tried to cover all the aspects of knowledge of that time. This exhaustive aim is now old-fashioned, but this is its main attraction.
Thus, there are hundreds of elements placed in huge display cabinets: fossils, minerals, varied samples of embalmed pieces of zoology, a small Jivaro head, a goat with two paws on its back, pre-Colombian pieces of pottery, shark teeth, an Egyptian mummy, molluscs, eggs or birds from all parts of the world.
This visit is like a walk through different disciplines and times.
