Around the 70s, a group of inhabitants from the town of Benissoda were
interested in the industrialization and mechanization process, which
did not use traditional tools any more. Thus, they decided to set up
the “Casa del Llaurador” (“Farmer’s Home”)
and go all over the region to pick up all kinds of agricultural tools.
This project means the first museum in the Valencian Community.
Nowadays, this collection is made up of almost six hundred pieces and
is located in a new three-storey building. Each floor offers a complementary
overview of the ethnographic heritage and the relations that different
societies have had with it.
On the first floor we can see an audiovisual show of 320 slides with
a good background music that offers us a historic, geographic and ethnographic
trip throughout the Vall d’Albaida region. On the ground floor,
there is a thematic exhibition that shows us a trip throughout all the
important stages in the life of an emblematic tool: the thresher. This
trip make us think about relationships between society and material
culture.
There is a tidy warehouse on the basement that gives the nostalgic
people the opportunity to visit and meet again the tools they used in
the past. It also gives the youngest people the opportunity to use and
become familiar with the tools of the collection through educational
activities.
