What is la Vall?
“La Vall d’Albaida” is a natural and historical region
which is located in the Valencian Community. Geographically, it borders
on the main regions such as “La Costera” and “La Safor”
in the province of Valencia, and “L’Alcoià”,
“El Comtat” and “L’Alt Vinalopó”
in the province of Alicante.
La Vall has a Mediterranean climate.
Thirty-four towns make up this region, which has 85 000 inhabitants.
Ontinyent, the region’s capital, has a population of more than
33 000.
This is one of the most industrialized regions, with an important textile
tradition, although the farming and ranching activities are also remarkable.
Moreover, service sector is increasingly growing.
Regarding communications, we can access to the north of La Vall d’Albaida
through the CV-40 (regional road), which comes from the N-340 (dual
carriageway) and goes past Aielo de Malferit, Ontinyent, Agullent and
Benissoda. This regional road converges with the N-340 again on the
way to Alcoi. The CV-60 (regional road) comes from the CV-40 and takes
us to Montaverner, Montixelvo and subsequently to the nearby region
of La Safor.
A wide network of regional roads links all the towns of the Vall d’Albaida
region. The N-340 runs parallel to the CV-40, going past the towns of
Bellús, Guadasséquies, Alfarrasí, Montaverner,
El Palomar, Albaida and subsequently Alcoi. The railway line Valencia-Alcoi
has different stations and stops throughout the region, and the station
of Ontinyent is in the west. The regular bus lines Valencia-Villena
and Valencia-Alcoi cover almost all the towns of the region.
The splendid and wide offer of gastronomy, natural resources, artistic
elements and cultural heritage, together with the sports or adventure
activities, will make tourists enjoy their visit to these lands.
